Materials Science and Engineering 2018 (MSE)

From September 26th to 28th 2018, Europe´s Material Scientists and Engineers will meet at the Materials Science and Engineering Congress (MSE) at the Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany. A special highlight is this year's guest country Argentina!

With more than 1,500 participants, the MSE is one of the largest English speaking congresses in the field of Material Science and Engineering across Europe. Every two years, numerous questions of scientific, social, and economic nature with regard to Materials Science and Engineering are discussed in several symposia and plenary lectures.

Hosted by the German Materials Society (DGM) in Darmstadt, Germany, the MSE has become the central platform for materials science and engineering experts to present their research to a large international community and to network across borders. In addition to different side events, the DGM Day with its Young Talent Forum is an integral part of the MSE.

The DGM is the largest technical-scientific society for Materials Science and Engineering in Europe. For almost 100 years it has combined the expertise of the specialist fields of science and the industry: representing the interests of its members from science and the industry - and as guarantor for the systematic development of the fields of materials science and materials engineering.

29th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Biomaterials

that will take place on September 8–13, 2018 in Maastricht, the Netherlands!

The theme of this year’s conference is “Materials for Life,” which expresses the challenge the field of biomaterials is currently facing: to provide effective and affordable biomaterials-based methods to repair and regenerate damaged and diseased tissues and organs. This challenge can only be overcome by converging breakthrough developments from the fields of chemistry, physics, materials science, biology and engineering to address real clinical needs, while also considering the translational pathway from bench to bedside.

Annual ESB conferences are an ideal setting for this endeavor. For 5 days, scientists, clinicians and industrialists with different backgrounds and expertise convene to synergistically advance the field of biomaterials by presenting their latest research, attending stimulating workshops and symposia and having lively discussions during breaks and social events. We are confident that Maastricht will encourage these activities in the best possible manner and we are happy to announce that four top scientists in the field, Dr. Viola Vogel, Dr. David Grainger, Dr. Katarina Le Blanc and Dr. Matthew Dalby have agreed to give a plenary lecture at the conference.

Maastricht and its surroundings provide a dynamic environment for innovative science and clinical applications. Besides being home to excellent research groups in the fields of regenerative medicine, biofabrication, bio-based materials, imaging, systems biology and big data within Maastricht University, top clinical groups in orthopedics, ophthalmology, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases are housed at the Maastricht University Medical Center. Large multinational companies, such as DSM and Medtronic, and numerous SMEs are in close proximity. Furthermore, the unique triple-helix collaboration between academia, industry and the provincial government has resulted in four Brightlands campuses, which guarantees the sustainability of these developments.

Maastricht is located in the Dutch Province of Limburg, at the crossroads of three countries that together comprise the Meuse–Rhine Euregion, making Maastricht easily accessible from all over Europe. Maastricht is among the oldest and without doubt one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands. A stroll along the river Meuse and through the city will give you a glimpse of the historic churches, medieval city walls and quaint squares. Here, you will enjoy the best food in the region, local wines and excellent beers, and above all, the warm hospitality and Burgundian life-style of Limburg!

The conference will be held at the Maastricht Exhibition and Conference Center (MECC), one of the largest convention centers in the Netherlands with excellent facilities for exhibitions, receptions, lectures and informal meetings. We invite you to submit abstracts and join us for this enlightening conference. We especially encourage young scientists to participate and contribute to what we hope will be a highly fruitful meeting. Building on four decades of successful ESB meetings, ESB2018 will usher in a dazzling future for biomaterials, an interactive program, and in building “Materials for Life.”
